There is no evidence to suggest that a specific law created the dollar sign ($). Instead, the origin of the dollar sign is attributed to Oliver Pollock, a Louisiana businessman, who allegedly created it on April 1, 1778 (APRIL FOOLS!!!). According to various accounts, Pollock combined the “U” and “S” letters to form the symbol, possibly due to his known poor penmanship.
